Master Arush’s Recovery Journey
When 7-year-old Master Arush Dnyaneshwar Belkunde was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect during a school health checkup two years ago, his life changed completely. Arush suffered from Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) – Large Ostium Secundum ASD with Severe Pulmonary Stenosis, causing breathlessness, repeated respiratory infections, and severe weakness.
He was admitted to Fortis Hospital, Mumbai, where doctors advised urgent cardiac surgery to save his life.
Arush successfully underwent ASD Surgical Closure with Autologous Pericardial Patch + Pulmonary Valvotomy on 4/11/2025.
His condition was critical, but timely intervention and medical care gave him a fighting chance.
Story
Arush’s journey has been filled with challenges from a very young age. Despite suffering discomfort and breathing difficulty since birth, he continued to attend school and tried to live a normal childhood. His condition worsened over time, and after multiple consultations, doctors confirmed the seriousness of his heart defect.
His father, Mr. Dyanseshwar Maruti Belkunde, is a small farmer earning just ₹40,000 annually, and his mother is a homemaker caring for two children. With such limited income, affording a life-saving cardiac surgery was impossible for them. Even basic household expenses are difficult to manage, making Arush’s treatment far beyond their reach. Thanks to the support of compassionate donors and timely medical care, Arush was admitted for surgery. The child bravely underwent intensive evaluations, cardiac scans, and preoperative tests to prepare for the operation.
Despite fear and uncertainty, Arush showed remarkable courage every step of the way. Today, he is recovering steadily, and his parents are deeply grateful to everyone who stood by them during their most difficult time.
Treatment Summary
Arush was admitted on 3rd November 2025 for evaluation and preparation. Preoperative 2D echocardiography revealed:
- Large 20mm Ostium Secundum ASD
- Right heart enlargement
- Severe valvar & supravalvar pulmonary stenosis (peak gradient 90mmHg)
- Dilated main pulmonary artery
- Increased right ventricular pressure
This confirmed the urgent need for cardiac surgery.
On 4/11/2025, he underwent ASD Surgical Closure + Pulmonary Valvotomy.
The postoperative echocardiography showed:
- ASD closure patch intact
- No residual shunt
- Good pulmonary valve opening
- Improved ventricular function
- Mild right-sided pleural effusion (expected during recovery)
Arush responded well to treatment and was discharged on 7th November 2025 in stable condition. This recovery was only possible due to timely medical attention and the helping hands of kind donors who made this life-saving surgery possible.
